Sales kick-offs are good at creating a moment.
The strategy is unveiled. The positioning is revealed. The messaging launches. Everyone leaves excited.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀.
A salesperson joins a customer call, opens the laptop and starts presenting.
What happens at SKO stays at SKO.
The real test is what they can do the next day.
Recognising a story when somebody presents it is easy. Retrieving it opposite a customer is hard.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽.
[**#Whiteboard**](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23whiteboard&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED)-storytelling helps close it.
Psychologists call it the drawing effect. Research shows we remember what we draw better than what we write. Drawing ties meaning to image and movement. You cannot watch your way into a story. You have to do it.

𝗦𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗞𝗢, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁.
Give them a whiteboard story. Have them draw it and explain it to a colleague. Swap. Play the customer. Interrupt. Challenge an assumption. Ask the question that should not arrive until slide 23. Run it again.
Nobody cares whether they can draw. The aim is familiarity.
And the story starts in the customer's world.
What is happening? What are they struggling with? What have they tried? What happens if nothing changes?
Only then: where do we fit?
Customers arrive for different reasons.
One needs to cut costs. Another is integrating an acquisition. Another has outgrown its operating model.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.
In a first meeting, you learn very little while you're presenting.
Buyers want to talk about their problems, not your products.
The best sales meetings are conversations.
Customers have an irritating habit of not following the deck. They ask awkward questions. Jump ahead. Take the conversation somewhere unexpected.
Sometimes they ask the presenter to stop.
A seller who only knows the deck has a problem.

𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 have a problem when the buyer takes them off script.
This is the part sales and enablement leaders miss.
The whiteboard is how sellers learn the conversation. They don't need it forever.
In a whiteboard storytelling workshop, they'll see it, say it, do it and draw it up to ten times.
Then comes the bit that matters.
Have them do it another ten times after SKO and then certify competence.
With each repetition, they rely on the whiteboard less, until the structure is theirs.
SKOs usually measure energy, attendance and feedback scores.
I would add one test.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗞𝗢?
Can they use the new story?
Without the slides.
Eventually, without the whiteboard.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿𝘀.
